About Jonathan Elsey Photography

Jonathan Elsey is a graphic designer working in local media, with a passion for the Mazda MX-5.

As a long-term MX-5 Owners Club member, his enthusiasm for the car led to him spending his spare time designing the club's magazine Soft Top Hardtop from 2007 to 2009 - when it won a prestigious national award. Working on the magazine awakened a love of photography, which resulted in Jon being invited to officially photograph the Ma5da Racing MX5 Championship in 2010.

Coming from a background of graphic design and technical illustration, Jon has a creative flair and eye for detail, which suits the genre of motorsport photography.

His forte is stunning action images from race circuits across the country, capturing the on and off track dramas of race weekends at Britain's biggest single-make championship. His images are often used by publications including Motorsport News.

Not content to stand on the sidelines, frustrated racer Jon co-owns Project Merlot, a Mk1 MK-5 which three friends rescued from the scrapheap and now run at track days, allowing novices to experience the thrills of driving at speed. He also owns a classic Mk1 roadster which has won various trophies.

When not at his day job or working for Ma5da Racing, Jon runs jonnie5designs which produces classic car T-shirts ranging from humble Minis to Porsche 911s - and of course the MX-5!

Jon is engaged to Ma5da Racing race day coordinator Tracey Sparling, and lives in Ipswich, Suffolk.
